Lamani</b> is a Moroccan <a
href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ambassador" target="_blank"
title=Ambassador><span style='color:windowtext;text-decoration:none'>ambassador</span></a> who
has had a distinguished career in international diplomacy. He held several
positions with the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States (1980–97 /
2006–2007) and was the Permanent Observer of the Organization of the Islamic
Conference to the United Nations (1998–2005). He served as an Officer in
Charge of Iraq-Kuwait dispute, and mediator in the prisoners of war exchange
issues; Coordinator for the Secretariat reform and restructuring in Tunis and
Cairo (1988-92); Deputy Permanent Observer to the European Community in
Brussels (1984–88); Coordinator of the Euro-Arab Dialogue and the Afro-Arab
cooperation (1980–94) ; Permanent Observer of the Organization of the
Islamic Conference to the United Nations (1998–2005) ; Special Permanent
Representative for Iraq (2006-2007).<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;line-height:18.0pt'>As an
ambassador of the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arab_League"
target="_blank" title="Arab League"><span style='color:windowtext;text-decoration:
none'>Arab League</span></a>, Lamani was sent to <a
href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iraq" target="_blank" title=Iraq><span
style='color:windowtext;text-decoration:none'>Iraq</span></a> to persuade
its bitterly divided <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shiite"
target="_blank" title=Shiite><span style='color:windowtext;text-decoration:
none'>Shiite</span></a>, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunni"
target="_blank" title=Sunni><span style='color:windowtext;text-decoration:none'>Sunni</span></a>, <a
href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurds_in_Iraq" target="_blank"
title="Kurds in Iraq"><span style='color:windowtext;text-decoration:none'>Kurdish</span></a>,
and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian" target="_blank"
title=Christian><span style='color:windowtext;text-decoration:none'>Christian</span></a> leaders
to make peace. <o:p></o:p></p>

class=apple-style-span>Since 2007, Lamani has been a visiting IDRC
(International Development Research Centre) senior fellow at the Centre
