<pre>Tell Madaba Archaeological Field School
June 10 to July 24, 2011
Early Bursary Application Deadline: February 4, 2011
Application Deadline: March 1, 2011
The 12th excavation season of the Tell Madaba Archaeological Project will be
conducted during the summer of 2011. This also marks the 7th time an
archaeological field school has been offered in conjunction with our
excavations. This is a truly unique opportunity to be involved in the
excavations of a complex archaeological site that has been occupied for over
5,000 years.
Students will participate in the Tell Madaba Archaeological Project, a
long-term multidisciplinary research project investigating the development
of urbanism and urban institutions in the ancient Near East. Although this
program will appeal particularly to students majoring in Archaeology,
Anthropology and Near and Middle Eastern studies, students from all programs
are eligible.
Students participating in the field school will be enrolled in a full-year
credit course (NMC261Y Field Archaeology). This course is designed as a
general practicum in archaeological field methods. Students will receive
extensive training in excavation methods, recording procedures, and the
preliminary processing of artefacts. Weekly lectures and field trips
exploring the archaeology of Jordan will supplement the primary focus on
field experience. No prior field experience is necessary and there are no
prerequisites. This course also fulfills the field requirements for the
Archaeology Program.
For more information, you can contact the project director: Debra Foran
(<a class="moz-txt-link-abbreviated" href="mailto:debra.foran@utoronto.ca">debra.foran@utoronto.ca</a>).
Application instructions and procedures are available on the Summer Abroad
website (<a class="moz-txt-link-abbreviated" href="http://www.summerabroad.utoronto.ca">www.summerabroad.utoronto.ca</a>).
